چکیده

In the last years, there has been a lot of interest in the description of electron-nucleus collisions at high energies. The results of current analysis show that future electronnucleus colliders at HERA and RHIC, probably could determine whether parton distributions saturate and constraint the behavior of the nuclear gluon distribution in the full kinematical range . However, until these colliders become reality we need to consider alternative searches in the current and/or scheduled accelerators which allow us to constraint the QCD dynamics. In this contribution, we summarize our investigations in Refs. 3,4 about the possibility of using ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions (UPC’s) as a photonuclear collider and study the heavy quark and vector meson production assuming distinct approaches for the QCD evolution. In heavy ion collisions the large number of photons coming from one of the colliding nuclei will allow to study photoproduction, with energies WγA reaching to 950 GeV for the LHC. The photonuclear cross sections are given by the convolution between the photon flux from one of the nuclei and the cross section for the scattering photon-nuclei. The expression for the production of a given final state Y

The Qcd Pomeron in Ultraperipheral Heavy Ion Collisions: v. Double Vector Meson Production in the Bfkl Approach

In this work the double vector meson production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions is investigated within the BFKL approach. The integrated cross sections and event rates for the processes AA → V1V2AA (Vi = ρ, ω, φ, J/Ψ,Υ) are computed and theoretical estimates for scattering on both light and heavy nuclei are given for energies of RHIC and LHC.

The Qcd Pomeron in Ultraperipheral Heavy Ion Collisions: Iii. Photonuclear Production of Heavy-quarks

We calculate the photonuclear production of heavy quarks in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. The integrated cross section and the rapidity distribution are computed employing sound high energy QCD formalisms as the collinear and semihard approaches as well as the saturation model. In particular, the color glass condensate (CGC) formalism is also considered using a simple phenomenological p...

Double Meson Production in Ultraperipheral Heavy Ion Collisions

The double meson production in ultraperipheral heavy ions collisions is addressed, focusing on the particular case of ρ J/Ψ from two-photon reactions. The cross section at photon level is obtained using distinct parameterizations for the gluon distribution on the light meson. The resulting estimates for the nuclear case are presented and discussed. As a by product, we estimate the double ρ prod...

Multiphoton Exchange Processes in Ultraperipheral Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

The very strong electromagnetic fields present in ultraperipheral relativistic heavy ion collisions lead to important higher order effects of the electromagnetic interaction. These multiphoton exchange processes are studied using perturbation theory and the sudden or Glauber approximation. In many important cases, the multi-photon amplitudes factorize into independent single-photon amplitudes. ...

Coherent Vector Meson Production in Ultra-Peripheral Heavy-Ion Collisions at STAR

We report the first observation of coherent ρ production (AuAu→ AuAuρ) and ρ production accompanied by mutual nuclear Coulomb excitation (AuAu → AuAuρ), and the observation of coherent ee pair production (AuAu→AuAuee) in ultraperipheral relativistic heavy-ion collisions (UPCs). We give transverse momentum, mass, and rapidity distributions. The cross sections for coherent ρ production at √ sNN =...
